What does superwash mean?
Superwash wool is wool that has been treated to withstand machine washing without felting or shrinking.
Regular wool has small scales on the fibers that interlock during washing, which can cause the garment to felt and shrink.
The Superwash treatment:
- Either removes or smooths out the scales
- Or coats the fibers with a thin polymer coating
This means that the yarn or garment:
- Can be machine washed (often at 30–40°C)
- Retains its shape better
- Is easier to care for than untreated wool
What does mulesing-free mean?
Mulesing-free wool means that the wool comes from sheep that have not been subjected to the painful mulesing procedure. It is a more animal-friendly choice and a way for us to safeguard good animal husbandry and care throughout the entire process – from sheep to finished, hand-dyed yarn.
